The AP2 S2000 should be called the S2200 Because it is actually 2.2L and not 2.0L like the AP1's. That is all. If I owned one I would ‘correct’ the badging.

S2200 doesn’t roll off the tongue quite like S2000.

However if they did that everyone would’ve complained that it has less power than the AP1 and probably sued Honda for false advertising since we all know that more displacement always requires MORE POWERRR.

Also the Euro AP2 kept the F20 until the end of production because we’re just better.

What if the 2000 was referring to the 2K years? Or maybe they didn’t want to piss off the eruopeans. They never got the 2.2.

The S2000 was named in the tradition of the Honda S500, S600, and S800 whose number designation refers to the displacement in cc’s

The North American AP2 S2000 got the 2.2 liter. Everybody else got an AP2 S2000 2.o liter.

Didn’t Japan eventually switch to the 2.2 as well?

I thought power was the same in both engines.

Nope! Everybody on the planet except North America has a 2.0 liter. I’ve yet to ever find out why — only guess I can come up with is because American buyers weren’t happy with the low levels of torque in the lower range of RPMs. Daily driving was painful. The 2.2 liter, though a lower redline, delivered 20 lb.ft of torque 500 RPMs sooner.

I can see the argument, but it was probably just much easier to have the united front of the S2000 name.

237 > 240 (250).

How is 237 greater than 240? :p

Also, I thought that difference was solely due to changing the way they calculate hp. I know a lot of cars “lost a few” hp around that time when it was really just due to re-rating.

The wiki says that the original 2.0L made the same 237 as the later 2.2; it was probably re-rated or retroactively rated to 237 for the same reason.

According to the wiki, Japan did in fact get the F22C in 2006.

And you’re right, the reason was in fact due to tha torq

Torques, bruh.

I believe the JDM F20C was rated at 250hp (SAE gross obviously) due to a slightly higher compression ratio than EDM and USDM, which were rated at 240. Then came the F22C, which traded 1000rpm for 10ft-lb of torque. I’d say in reality the F22C comes closest to the magic 240hp. But you know, higher number is high and that sells cars, amirite american cars of the 1960s?

Where did you find this? Wikipedia says every AP2 got the 2.2.

Carsales suggests all the Australian models are 2.0.

It seems Wiki says Japan got it eventually, but Europe didn’t. And neither did Australia.

Oh I was looking at the table. The way the cells sit seems to tell the whole story, but actually , there’s crossover in the years stated for each engine. It does say the F20C reaches ‘til 2009, though the F22C comes in in 2004.
